1960s Span House with artist’s studio in London SW19
Now, this is unusual. A 1960s Span House with artist’s studio in London SW19. Not sure I’ve seen a Span quite like it.
Well, I have and I haven’t. This is a Span House and as such, they tend to have a typical look and feel. Well, most of them anyway.
It is part of Victoria Drive in London SW19, one of a group of Spans built around 1960. The postcode is important because it does mean a sizeable price for a Span despite this one requiring some work.
But the flipside of that is a house with plenty of original touches. Yes, some need work to bring this one back to its best, but when it comes to Span, buyers like the original touches still intact.
In terms of this one, I see the parquet flooring the original internal (and probably external) doors, some timber-clad ceilings, the beams, the original kitchen units and for better or worse, the original bathroom.
It isn’t perfect though. The bathroom, realistically, will need an upgrade. The kitchen too, although hopefully not at the expense of the original cabinets.
Some tired finishes too and an artist’s studio, which I presume is the 1980s addition, looks like it has seen a lot of art produced. Paint seems to be everywhere. There seems to be some damage to the walls and ceilings too. Things that would need looking into. Sorry to have to be a realist here.
But the optimist in me sees those original touches as well as far more space than you would expect of a Span House. The agent has this down for modernisation, redevelopment for separate units (subject to permission) or as a live/work unit. I would definitely be looking at the last option, with the option of just extending your reception space with this one too. Potential, that’s for sure.
As it stands, the house has 1,750 sq. ft. of living area, which is currently made up of three reception rooms, the extensive artist’s studio, four bedrooms, a kitchen, the bathroom and a separate shower room.
The house also has gardens to three sides, a garage ‘en-bloc’ and off-street parking. I can only assume that with this being a Span, there are communal grounds too. Although I don’t know this Span development well enough to confirm.
As I said, postcode and floorspace play a part in the asking price, which is £1,400,000.
