Perhaps not a building you know, but this one-bedroom split-level apartment in the grade II-listed Kenneth Frampton-designed Corringham in London W2 is well worth a mention.
Corringham was designed in 1960-62 by Kenneth Frampton of Douglas Stephen & Partners, subsequently Grade-II listed by English Heritage in 1998. It’s a building very much of its era, but not in a bad way. It’s a distinctive construction on a very good way and with a 24-hour resident porter and a communal garden, quite a stylish place to live too.
The apartment is on the first floor of the building, with an entrance hall with steps down to a west-facing reception room with modern open-plan kitchen. A further set of stairs leads down to the bathroom, and then down again to the bedroom at the rear of the building.
There’s also a covered balcony with space for a table and chairs that overlooks the gardens, along with a large storage cupboard beside the bedroom and a separate storage unit in the basement of the building.
